K53 practice
built like the
real test.
The official learner's test marks three sections separately — and you have to pass all three. Most practice apps give you one percentage. Ours doesn't, because the test doesn't.
Free in the Supa SD app for Android. No lesson booking required.
74 questions. Three sections. 60 minutes.
Road rules — 30 questions
Road signs — 30 questions
Vehicle controls — 14 questions
Every section marked on its own. Miss one and you've failed — same as the real thing.
Most people don't fail K53 overall. They fail one section.
You can know the rules of the road cold and still walk out with a fail because the signs section caught you. Practising against a single combined percentage hides exactly the thing that's going to fail you — and you only find out on test day, after you've paid.
Practice that tells you the truth about where you stand.
Marked section by section
Road rules, road signs and vehicle controls are each scored against their own minimum. You'll see which section you passed and which one sank you — not one number that tells you nothing.
Signs you can actually see
37 South African road signs drawn into the app. The real test shows you a sign and asks what it means, so that's what we do — no describing a red triangle in words and hoping you picture the right one.
Timed, like the real thing
Mock tests run against the clock. Practising untimed builds the wrong habit — the pressure is part of what people fail on.
Every answer explained
Get one wrong and you're told why, straight away. Wrong answers are the ones worth reading, so the explanation is attached to them rather than buried in a summary.
Readiness you can act on
Your recent attempts roll up into a per-section read: road signs sitting at 62% when you need more. That tells you what to study tonight.
Practise the class you're testing for
Motorcycle, light vehicle (Code B / Code 8) or heavy vehicle. Rules and signs stay the same — the vehicle controls section resizes to match your class, like the official paper.
What the official test actually covers.
Rules of the road
Following distance, right of way, speed limits, overtaking, traffic lights and signals, parking and stopping, and what the law expects of you as a driver.
Road signs and markings
Regulatory, warning, command, prohibition and information signs — plus road markings and traffic signals. This is the section most people underestimate.
Vehicle controls
Steering, clutch, brakes, gears, mirrors, indicators and instruments — what each control does and when to use it. The only section that changes with your licence class.
K53, answered plainly.
How many questions is the K53 test?
Three sections: 30 road rules, 30 road signs, and a vehicle controls section that depends on your class — 14 for a light motor vehicle (74 in total) or 8 for a motorcycle (68 in total).
What's the pass mark?
Each section carries its own minimum and you have to reach all three. A high overall score won't rescue a section you've failed — which is exactly why practising against one combined percentage is misleading.
How long is a learner's licence valid?
24 months. You'll need to pass your driving test before it expires, otherwise you start again with a fresh learner's test.
Is the practice free?
Yes — K53 practice, road signs and per-section results are free in the Supa SD app. You don't need to book a lesson to use them.
Does passing here mean I'll pass the real test?
No. This is practice, not the official test, and it isn't affiliated with it. What it does is mirror the official structure closely enough that you know which section is weak before you book.
What happens after I pass?
You book lessons. Supa SD is built for that too — verified instructors with licence, PrDP and vehicle roadworthiness already checked.
Pass the test. Then find someone to teach you properly.
Free K53 practice, verified instructors, booking requests and real reviews — all in the Supa SD app for Android.
Based on the SA Department of Transport learner driver manuals. Practice results do not replace the official test.
